glad mean very very happy or more formal than happy
xpert

Happy can be followed by a noun whereas glad cannot. For example, we say
He is a happy man- not a glad man
Aslo, we say
happy - happier - the happiest- not gladder or the gladdest

close, shut
usage: move so that an opening or passage is obstructed make shut; "Close the door"; "shut the window"
xpert
03-03-2008, 11 : 41 PM
As adjectives, closed and shut can often used with the same meaning but slight differences closed can be used before a noun whereas shut cannot. We say
a closed door/road not a shut door/road
As verbs, we prefer close for slow movements (a flower closing at night) and close is more common in formal style
Notice: We close (not shut) roads, railyways etc (channels of communication) also we close letters, bank accounts, meetings etc

Job is a normal word to describe what someone does for a living; it cannot always be reaplced by occupation
Example: He's applying for a job in a bank- not a profession or occupation
Occupation is the formal word for job and is used used in limited contexts like form-filling
Example: This form asks for details about you age, occupation/job, etc. not profession
Profession is high-status work that requires special training and education: law, medicine are profession; lawyers and doctors a professional people
Example: After studying law, I entered the legal profession- not job or occupation

Home where people live permanently and the house where people live for few days not live permanently
xpert
20-03-2008, 03 : 13 AM
That's Good! Read this, please
A house is a physical structure with walls and a roof and a door
A home can be anywhere you live, your home may be a mobile home, or a motor home, or an igloo. As they say, "home is where the heart is."
Remember
A house can be built by anyone but a home can be only made by family members
Also remember
A house is the physical building. A home is a place where you reside that has love and warmth. A home could be a trailer, a hut, a car, anywhere where you and your loved ones are
Don't forget this
Always say: Three new houses had been built here

xpert
20-03-2008, 03 : 48 PM
That's really a nice question! There're three confusing words which I'm going to shed light on. These words are migrate, emigrate and immigrate
Migrate refers to the movement of people from one place to another within a country or area: people who do this called migrants
Example: 1. A lot of people from the countryside are migrating to the towns
Notice: We never use emigrate or immigrate for birds an animals: we say migrant birds
Example: Many species of birds migrate to warmer places in winter
Emigrate usually from a place = permanently leave your native country, people who this are emigrants
Example: Millions of people emigrated from Europe to the States in the 20th century
Immigrate usually to a place = go to live in a country which is not your native country, people who do this are immigrants
Example: A lot of people immigrated to Britain from Africa in 60s

Ok! What's the difference between speed and velocity
Queen of the lamp
27-03-2008, 09 : 59 PM
In physics, speed is defined as the rate of increase (or decrease) of distance travelled, with time.Linear velocity is the rate of increase (or decrease) of distance traversed by a body in a particular direction. Speed is defined with the omission of reference to direction. Thus, velocity is a vector quantity and speed is a scalar one.

Scientifically speaking, what you said is absolutely correct. In simple English
Speed refers to man-made objects such as cars, trains, planes etc
Velocity refers to natural things such as light, sound, wind etc

What's the difference between these two sentences
My brother who is a teacher has gone to America
My brother, who is a teacher, has gone to America
Queen of the lamp
19-04-2008, 03 : 15 AM
When we put commas that means the information between them is not important It is additional . we can omit it
so,in the sentence with commas his brother is already known for the listeners may be because he has only one brother or he talked about his brother earlier
but in the other sentence the listeners don't know which brother he is talking about so he has to specify which brother he means
so,the information is necessary we cannot omit it
I hope my answer is correct

Example: After a long discussion, the two group arrived at an agreement
arrived to: to reach a destination, i.e. a place
Example: He arrived to Jeddah

For the moment (or) for the present means for a short time
I'm very happy at work but I'll stay there for the moment
You can also add

Now; what is the difference between: Each and Every ?
xpert
22-04-2008, 04 : 39 PM
Each means every one separately
Every means each, all
Sometimes, each and every have the same meaning
Prices go up each year
Prices go up every year
But often they are not exactly the same
Each expresses the idea of 'one by one'. It emphasizes individuality
Every is half-way between each and all. It sees things or people as singular, but in a group or in general.
Consider the following
Every artist is sensitive
Each artist sees things differently
Every soldier saluted as the President arrived
The President gave each soldier a medal
