سألني أحد المهتمين باللغة العربية ذات مرة هذا السؤال اللطيف، هل يوجد فرق بين الفعلين جَلَسَ وقَعَد؟ فقلت له بعد تفكيرعميق: لا. فتبسم قائلاً: في اللغات توجد العديد من الكلمات التي يظن عامة الناس أنها مترادفات لكن في حقيقة الأمر تكون مختلفة بغض النظرعن درجة اختلافها، كلامه هذا فتح عندي ملف به الكثير من الكلمات في اللغة الإنجليزية والتي تضع المتحدث أو الكاتب في كثير من الأحايين في حيرة عند اختياره المفردة المناسبة للسياق. بدأت بعدها أبحث عن الكلمات العربية المتشابهة في المعنى فوجدت العجب العجاب: هل تعرف أن هناك فرق بين هذه الكلمات:

[السؤال والاستفهام] [الدعاء والنداء] [العام والسنة] [الجبهة والجبين]
[التكرار والإعادة] [الاعتراف والإقرار] [المدح والثناء] [اللوم والعتاب]

وغيرها من الكلمات التي تدل على غزارة اللغة العربية وأصالتها إن كنت من المهتمين باللغة العربية أو ممن لديه فضولٌ -مثلي- فما عليك إلاّ أن تبحث عن هذين الكتابين:

الفروق اللغوية لأبي هلال العسكري و
فقه اللغة وأسرار العربية للثعالبي

أما إن كنت تريد معرفة ما يخص اللغة الإنجليزية من فروق بين كلمات مثل:

ache - hurt - pain
accept - allow - admit
advance - progress
age - old
agenda - diary
arise - rise - raise

فما عليك إلاّ أن تتابعنا أولاً بأول، ففي اللغة الإنجليزية الكثير من الكلمات المتناثرة في القواميس وبعض المواقع الإنجليزية التي تنبه المتعلم الكريم بهذه الفروق حتى يضع الكلمة المناسبة في المكان المناسب.

لهذه الأسباب ولعلمي التام بأن موضوعاً كهذا سيفيد المتعلمين أولاً وسيجذب انتباه المتذوقين للغة الإنجليزية ثانياً قررت أن أضع بين يديكم دورة اسميتها

في هذه الدورة ستعرف الفرق بين الكثيرمن الكلمات التي طالما استخدمتها أثناء حديثك ولا تعرف الفرق بينها. في هذه الدورة سنغوص في اللغة لنتعلم أشياءاً كثيرة -بإذن الله- لم نكن نعلمها من قبل

1. We place a/an according to sounds not letters (a + consonant sound) (an + vowel sound)

U is usually pronounced as long vowel /yoo/ as in university if it is followed by consonant + vowel. For example, [U]unit, utility, user, usual etc.

Rule 1: U + consonant + vowel = /yoo/

U is pronounced as a short vowel /u/ as in uncle if it is followed by two consonants. For exmample, upper, under, updated, urban etc.

Rule 2: U + consonant + consonant = /u/

Notice: The prefix un- (for adjectives) is always pronounced /u/ not /yoo/

Some = an unspecified number or amount is the plural of a/an where the reference is to quantity; we normally use a/an only with countable nouns

We also use a/an for all drinks seen as a complete measure: a coffee, a tea, but use some for fluids of which there is more in the tap, bottle, packet, bag, box etc. some water, some rice, some sugar

شاطئ البحر (حافة البحر) وهي نقطة إلتقاء البحر باليابسة
Shore: land at the edge of the sea or a lake
She stood on the shore waving as the boat sailed away.

ملاحظة: الكلمتان beach و seashore في الغالب تعتبر مترادفات


ساحل البحر
Coast: parts of a country that are by the sea
After ten weeks at sea, the sailors saw the coast of America.


المنطقة القريبة من البحر (يقصدها الناس عادة لـتـنزه)
Seaside: an area near the sea where people go to have a holiday
We spent a day at the seaside resort


الكورنيش (الطريق المحاذي للبحر)
Corniche: (taken from French) a road built along the coast
Jeddah Corniche is located in the western part of Jeddah on the Red Sea

مبتدء في حرفة ، لعبة أو ظيفة ما
Novice: a person who has very little experience or skill, e.g. in a job or sport
He’s still a novice at rowing.
A competition like this is not for novices


الطالب المبتدئ ، متعلم
Learner: a person who is learning how to do something
The evening swimming classes are specially for adult learners.
The new dictionary is good for advanced learners of English

Note: Tea, coffee etc can be countable when you are thinking of a cup / a glass. we say this in cafes and restaurants:

Can I have a coffee please?
(This means a cup of coffee. We can use a in front of coffee in this.)

Two teas please.
(This means two cups of tea.)

سألني أحد المهتمين باللغة العربية ذات مرة هذا السؤال اللطيف، هل يوجد فرق بين الفعلين جَلَسَ وقَعَد؟ فقلت له بعد تفكيرعميق: لا. فتبسم قائلاً: في اللغات توجد العديد من الكلمات التي يظن عامة الناس أنها مترادفات لكن في حقيقة الأمر تكون مختلفة بغض النظرعن درجة اختلافها، كلامه هذا فتح عندي ملف به الكثير من الكلمات في اللغة الإنجليزية والتي تضع المتحدث أو الكاتب في كثير من الأحايين في حيرة عند اختياره المفردة المناسبة للسياق. بدأت بعدها أبحث عن الكلمات العربية المتشابهة في المعنى فوجدت العجب العجاب: هل تعرف أن هناك فرق بين هذه الكلمات:

[السؤال والاستفهام] [الدعاء والنداء] [العام والسنة] [الجبهة والجبين]
[التكرار والإعادة] [الاعتراف والإقرار] [المدح والثناء] [اللوم والعتاب]

وغيرها من الكلمات التي تدل على غزارة اللغة العربية وأصالتها إن كنت من المهتمين باللغة العربية أو ممن لديه فضولٌ -مثلي- فما عليك إلاّ أن تبحث عن هذين الكتابين:

الفروق اللغوية لأبي هلال العسكري و
فقه اللغة وأسرار العربية للثعالبي

أما إن كنت تريد معرفة ما يخص اللغة الإنجليزية من فروق بين كلمات مثل:

ache - hurt - pain
accept - allow - admit
advance - progress
age - old
agenda - diary
arise - rise - raise

فما عليك إلاّ أن تتابعنا أولاً بأول، ففي اللغة الإنجليزية الكثير من الكلمات المتناثرة في القواميس وبعض المواقع الإنجليزية التي تنبه المتعلم الكريم بهذه الفروق حتى يضع الكلمة المناسبة في المكان المناسب.

لهذه الأسباب ولعلمي التام بأن موضوعاً كهذا سيفيد المتعلمين أولاً وسيجذب انتباه المتذوقين للغة الإنجليزية ثانياً قررت أن أضع بين يديكم دورة اسميتها

Disagree: to say that you do not have the same opinion as someone else

Differ: if people differ, they have different opinions from each other
Our views on education differ

يجادل بشدة
Argue: to discuss without agreeing, often in a noisy or angry way
They argued over the prices.

يجادل - يشكك في صحة أمر ما
Dispute: to say that you strongly believe that something is not true or correct
There is no disputing the fact that Sarah is the best player

يعارض - ينكر صحة شي ما
Contradict: to say that what someone else says is not true
They didn’t dare contradict their mother
